Liam has two older sisters: Nicola and Ruth, and it was said that he was earlier than the estimated pregnancy. When he was a kid, he used to get ill frequently, and during one of the regular tests, doctors noticed that one of his kidneys was scarred and dysfunctional. To cope with this pain, he used to take sixteen injections in his arm every morning and also in the evening.

As a kid, he was very much interested in sports and also joined Wolverhamptom and Bilston Athletics Club to pursue his running career. At one point, he was also regarded as the third best player in the country. Also, he used to get bullied as a kid, so he took boxing lessons at the age of twelve.

Beginning of Career:

Payne was just twelve when he joined the show business. He became a member of the Pink Production Theatre Company, and also appeared as Tony Manero from Saturday Night Fever.

In 2008, Payne auditioned for the fifth season of the British reality show The X Factor. He was just 14 at that time and performed the song “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra in front of judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh. He made it to the judges house, but did not qualify for the next round and Simon encouraged him to return back in two years.

In 2010, Liam Payne returned back to the show and performed the song “Cry Me a River” by Michael Buble, in front of the same judges. This time, he received four yeses and also a standing ovation from Simon Cowell, and hence was qualified to move forward.

However, he failed to progress to the boys category at judges house and hence by the suggestion of the Pussycat Dolls member Nicole Scherzinger, he was put in a group along with Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. Like this, they formed a band called One Direction.

One Direction and rise in popularity:

Liam Payne

One Direction was formed on 23rd July, 2010, and consisted of Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Noran, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles. Initially they all auditioned separately but were kept in a group together by Simon Cowell. Although they didn’t win the competition, they became widely popular in the UK, and started winning millions of hearts across the country.

In 2011, the band released their first song “What Make You Beautiful”, which went on to become a critical and commercial hit across the globe. That same month, they released their first album “Up All Night”, and it became the UK’s fastest selling debut album.

The following year, in 2012, they released their second studio album “Take Me Home”, and it reached number 1 in 35 different countries including the USA. Both these albums: “Take Me Home” and “Up All Night” went on to reach number 1 in the Billboard and like this One Direction became the first group to have their first two albums reach number one.

In 2013, they released their third studio album, “Midnight Memories”, and the lead single of the album, “Best Song Ever” also broke the YouTube record for being the most viewed video within the first 24 hours with over 10.9 Million views. “Midnight Memories” also went on to reach number 1 in the Billboard and One Direction became the first group to get that success since The Monkees in 1967.

Their fourth album was “Four”, and also it was the last album of the band before the departure of Zayn Malik.

In 2015, Zayn Malik announced that he is leaving the band, and the four boys kept going on. But unfortunately, just after a year, they broke up after releasing their fifth album “Made in the A.M.”.

“Four” was their fourth album, and the most popular songs from this album were “Steal My Girl” and “Night Changes”. It was also the last album of the band before Zayn Malik’s departure.

As Zayn Malik was credited for the high notes in the songs for the band, all that responsibility now came to Liam, and even he has a very good vocal range.

Post One Direction to Present:

Liam started his solo career with Republic Records and the first song he released was “Strip That Down” featuring Quavo. The song received a good success and it went on to reach number 1 in the UK and number 10 in the USA. It was co-written by Ed Sheeran and Stever Mac.

Later, he went on to release “Bedroom Floor”, and “Get Low” with Zedd.

He also contributed his voice for Jonas Blue’s song “Polaroid” along with Lennon Stella, and in 2019, he collaborated with the American rapper A Boogie wit da Hoodie for the song “Stack It Up”.

In 2019, he released his first studio album “LP1”, but it received negative reviews from the critics and reached number 17 in the UK. The same year, he released a Christmas song called “All I Want (For Christmas)”, which also received negative reviews.

In 2020, he teamed up with Alesso and released the song “Midnight”, which received positive reviews and also became very popular on TikTok.

The same year, he released the song “Naughty List” along with the TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio, which also received negative reviews even from his own fans.
