Friends, the cult classic show of 1994 that gave us some of the most memorable moments of all time, has left no stones unturned to keep us entertained and make us laugh. But unfortunately, sad news has arrived from the show that has left all of us in a state of despair. Let us get into it.
If you have ever watched Friends, then you must remember Gunther, the barista who worked at the Central Perk, and had a major crush on Rachel, played by Jennifer Aniston. The character of Gunther was played by actor James Michael Tyler, and the sad news is related to him. Unfortunately, James passed away on 24th October, 2021 after battling cancer for three years.
Previously, we informed you that Tyler was diagnosed with fourth stage prostate cancer, which he revealed himself in NBC’s Today Show. He said, “I was 56 years olf at the time, and they screen for PSA, which is prostate-specific antigen.” He continued, “That came back at an extraordinarily high number, so I knew immediately when I went online and I saw the results of my blood test and blood work that there was obviously something quite wrong there.”
Furthermore , he said, “Nearly immediately, my doctor called me and said, ‘Hey, I need you to come in tomorrow because I suspect that you may have a quite serious problem with your prostate’”.
Sadly, he said, “I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which has spread to my bones. I’ve been dealing with that diagnosis for almost the past three years. It’s stage 4 now. Late stage cancer. So eventually, you know, it’s gonna probably get me.”
This statement of Tyler, came just a few days after the Friends Reunion that happened on 27th May, 2021. Although he was diagnosed with the illness back in 2018, he didn’t publicly reveal it until 2021.
Tyler also told about his daily routine, saying, “All I had to do was take a pill in the morning and the night, and boom, life was pretty much normal. I had it then, but was able to function normally. I was feeling fine honestly, I had no symptoms, I didn’t feel any symptoms, and it was very easy to regulate.”
He was also undergoing chemotherapy and had raised awareness about detecting the disease early. But unfortunately, he passed away at his home in Los Angeles, California.
