Cartoons were an important part of our childhood. We grew up watching and loving them. Now, when we look back to those days, they feel like some of the golden memories that have been left behind. But not everything is as shiny as gold as we think.
During all these years, people have come up with different types of conspiracy theories about the cartoons we loved, that can actually ruin our childhood. Upon realizing how dark some of these theories are, we may not look at them in the same way now, the way we used to look at them in our childhood. Let’s start the crazy conspiracy theories of our beloved cartoons:
Spongebob Squarepants is one of the most popular animated series that exists right now. The show has been running for 22 years, making it one of the longest running cartoons ever made.
Set in a fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom, the show tells the story of a sea sponge named Spongebob Squarepants, and his adventures with other characters such as Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, Plankton, Pearl, Mrs. Puff, etc. Although Spongebob is always a happy-go-lucky creature, some dark conspiracies surround the show.
The theory says that every character in the show is on drugs, due to which they have their unique personality and behavior. It is said that Spongebob is on meth, due to which he is always energetic and sometimes no in-between. His best friend, Patrick Star is on weed as he laughs at everything. Squidward is on heroin, as he is always grumpy and annoyed by everything. Mr. Krabs is on cocaine as he is always excited and concerned about money, while his daughter Pearl is an alcoholic as she always ruins everything.
Another theory suggests that every character represents evil. Like Spongebob represents lust, Mr. Krabs represents greed, Patrick represents laziness, Gary represents gluttony, Squidward represents wrath, Sandy represents pride and Plankton represents envy. That was pretty much for one kid’s show.
Phineas and Ferb
One of the best series in Disney is Phineas and Ferb, which tells the story of two brothers who built the most bizarre things everyday during their 104 days of summer vacation. Their sister, Candace, always wants to bust them and show their invention to their mother, Lindana, but fails everytime.
The show parallely tells the story of evil scientist, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, and his nemesis Perry the Platypus, who is also Phineas and Ferb’s pet. Their fight causes the inventions to disappear, hence making the episode connected from all sides.
You are probably wondering what dark conspiracy may be there, but the theory actually surrounds Candace. It is said that Candace was a real girl, and Phineas was her brother, who died when he was young. Candace couldn’t cope with the death of her brother, and she imagines him as alive and doing the most dangerous things everyday without getting hurt.
While Ferb is crippled and can barely talk, like he is shown mostly silent in the show. As the adventures of Phineas and Ferb are all in her head, she is never able to show what they build to her mom. Unfortunately she died, and her mom told this story to Disney, who got interested and picked it up as a show.
But the conspiracy has been debunked as the creators of Phineas and Ferb said that the show was inspired from their childhood. If it was true, it would be pretty dark. But still, the backstory of Dr. Doofenshmirtz is pretty dark in the show.
One of the most popular anime is Doraemon, which is based on a Japanese Manga series. The show is very popular not only in Japan, but different parts of the world, and has been dubbed and shown in different countries. The show also has its own movies, and is a cult classic for Japanese pop culture.
Doraemon tells the story of an average boy, Nobita, who is so lazy that his future is not very good. So, his grandson, Sewashi, sends a cat robot from the 22nd century so that he can change Nobita, and the name of that robot is Doraemon. The episodes of the show goes with Nobita suffering from some problem and Doraemon giving him some gadgets to help him, but he always messes them up. Besides Nobita and Doraemon, other characters include Shizuka, Gian, Suneo, Dekisugi, etc.
The conspiracy theory of the show draws similarity to that of Phineas and Ferb. It is said that Nobita was a really troubled kid, and he suffered from schizophrenia (a long-term mental disorder ). Due to this, he imagines Doraemon as his friend because he has no real friends in real life. Looking at his mental condition, he is taken to a doctor who tells him Doraemon is not real, and this trauma leads him to take his own life. He shoots himself with his dad’s gun.
This is really some messed up theory. I don’t think anybody can imagine how dark things could actually get.
We all know one of the Disney classic movies, Peter Pan. The movie was very popular during the early days, and even after decades of its release. The movie also got its own spin off series called, Jake and the Neverland Pirates. The Disney Channel Original Movie Series, Descendants, also features Captain Hook’s son, Harry Hook.
Peter Pan is a boy from a place called Neverland, where kids never grow up. One night, he comes to London with his friend Tinker Bell, and visits Wendy, John and Michael, who were alone at the home that night. As Peter Pan and Tinker Bell can fly, they sprinkle some Pixie dust on them, and the 3 kids fly and they are taken to Neverland. There, they battle a pirate Captain Hook, who wants to take revenge from Peter Pan.
Although the story kind of sounds dark itself, the conspiracy is even crazier. It is said that Neverland is not a place, but it is an afterlife. Peter Pan is already dead and so are other kids in Neverland. As they are dead, they cannot grow up. Also kids are seen consuming hookah, which is pretty scary. That night, Peter Pan came to Wendy and her brothers to kill him, and take them to Neverland or the afterlife.
Who knew one of our favorite childhood heroes is actually a sinister villain!
Courage the Cowardly Dog
In our childhood, we didn’t need Conjuring or American Horror Story to get scared and wrap ourselves in a blanket. Just this one show about a purple dog was enough to give us nightmares.
Courage the Cowardly Dog is a show on Cartoon Network that tells the story of Courage, a small dog, who lives with his owners Eustace and Muriel in Kansas, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Although Muriel loves him very much, Eustace is not a big fan of him. However, Courage loves both of them. The episodes are guest starred by numerous ghosts, witches and other scary supernatural creatures who try to attack Eustace and Muriel, but Courage always comes forward to save them from evil.
Sounds like some dark comedy, the show actually is surrounded by a conspiracy theory. The theory says that Courage is not a mentally stable dog. As a dog owner, you know that dogs need a walk everyday so that they can observe the outer world too, but in the case of Courage, he is never taken to any walk. Also, their house is in the middle of nowhere, no neighbors, no nothing, and the ghosts and monsters that make an appearance in the show are actually humans.
As Courage is unknown to the outer world, he doesn’t know that there are billions of humans like Eustace and Muriel. This is the reason why he sees other humans as monsters. Also, we sometimes see how Eustace turns into a monster when he is angry. So this theory can partly be true.
Conspiracy Theories are not something that is proved to be 100%, but it’s the assumption of how the things can actually be. Do you think these conspiracy theories about our favorite childhood shows are real, or do you wanna add more? Do let us know.
