5 TV series that should have ended earlier

There are a lot of TV series which we wished had lasted longer with more seasons and episodes. While there are some shows which ended on a perfect note, without further complicating the story line. But today, we are going to talk about five TV shows which should have ended earlier, but kept on getting longer with more complicated stories and a lot of plotholes, which even the writers are not able to fill.

These shows became pointless after certain seasons, and it really did not matter in those seasons. So, let us see which are those five shows. For your information, this is our personal opinion, and it has got nothing to do with ratings and reviews.

5. Pretty Little Liars:

Genre: Teen Drama, Crime Thriller, Mystery

Director: I. Marlene King

Network: Freeform

No. of Seasons: 7

No. of Episodes: 160

Year: 2010-2017

Starring: Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Sasha Pieterse

The show started pretty well, and we remember it was so popular during those days. Like, everybody was so obsessed with the show, and it was very obvious because the show was really good at the beginning. It was like a pretty perfect thriller that had everything we needed: drama, romance, suspense, and well executed plot.

But things started to go downhill after the fourth season, when the plot became so complicated that maybe even the actors could not understand what was happening, let alone us viewers. The actors were just acting, and the writers were just putting up unnecessary drama to create the hype. It could have easily ended after season 2, after the revelation of “A”, but season 3 was kinda good too. However, we have no idea what just happened after the fourth season, and the character development was also not favorable.

The show also tried to revive through the spin-offs, but all the spin-offs were just “eh”, nothing special.

4. The Vampire Diaries:

Genre: Supernatural Drama, Horror, Fantasy

Director: Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec

Network: The CW

No. of Seasons: 8

No. of Episodes: 171

Year: 2009-2017

Starring: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham

Yes, The Vampire Diaries. Please Delena fans, don’t come after us. Even we loved the show, although it was just like a pretty basic supernatural thriller. The Vampire Diaries actually had a potential to entertain the audience, because the plot was something which we had never seen before. Also we remember how huge the show was, and how everybody was obsessed with vampires, and every country tried to create their own adaptation.

Not gonna lie, but the show went quite well, but at one point we really felt that the show should have ended, and that is after the sixth season. In the sixth season, Nina Dobrev’s character of Elena went into a coma, and she did not return back for the next two seasons. Let us argue that Nina’s performance was the best in the show, and without her everything felt so low.

Even this show got spin-offs like The Originals and Legacies, which are kind of good to watch.

3. 13 Reasons Why:

Genre: Teen Drama, Psychological Thriller

Director: Brian Yorkey

Network: Netflix

No. of Seasons: 4

No. of Episodes: 29

Year: 2017-2020

Starring: Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, Christian Navarro, Alisha Boe, Brandon Flynn

The year was 2017, and we remember how huge the first season of this show was. People all around us were suggesting that we watch this show. It was not only critically acclaimed, but the audience loved it so much that it created a cultural impact about suicide preventions. Even the actors like Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford delivered such amazing performances that we really felt like we were living in that world.

However, the downfall started after the first season, after the twist that there is another tape too. The second season was kind of in a hype, all thanks to the success of the first season. Personally speaking, the show should have ended after the second season because the third season was very unnecessary and we really don’t understand why they had to bring a new character to replace Hannah Baker. Talking about the fourth season, it was bizarre, it was worse than we could ever imagine.

So if you are planning to watch this show, just quit it after the first season or second. But don’t dare to watch the final two seasons.

2. Grey’s Anatomy

Genre: Medical Drama, Dark Comedy

Director: Shonda Rhimes

Network: ABC

No. of Seasons: 17

No. of Episodes: 380

Year: 2005-present

Starring: Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Kevin McKidd

To be honest, Grey’s Anatomy is still fun to watch, even after 17 seasons we really appreciate how they have handled the storyline during the course of all these years. Unlike other shows on this list, we are not upset that the story got messed up or the characters are losing their charm, but why we have included Grey’s Anatomy is because of how lengthy this show is actually getting.

17 seasons is not a joke, and the 18th season is coming very soon. We wonder if the writers are tired or not by writing this show, and how much time they need to think before writing it. Grey’s Anatomy should have ended after a few seasons collecting all the success that it got, and we hope that the story won’t be tangled in the future.

1. Riverdale:

Genre: Teen Drama, Crime Thriller

Director: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Network: The CW

No. of Seasons: 5

No. of Episodes: 86

Year: 2017-present

Starring: KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camilla Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madeleine Petsch

Let us all agree on this. Like Pretty Little Liars, Riverdale was also a similar kind of show. If you have watched Pretty Little Liars, you won’t get into much trouble understanding Riverdale. The show was good in the first season as the plot was very strong and the episodes were also properly limited without extending it unnecessarily. Talking about the second season, it was also kind of good and thrilling as we got to see a lot of dark things.

But we would like to question what just happened after the third season. The third season was so dark and bizarre that we could not even keep an eye on it. The plot got further complicated and this season had the worst musical episode ever. The characters did not improve at all, and everything remained so cringey that we felt like leaving the show in the middle. After the horrendous third season, we got the fourth season which was equally bad, and so is the fifth season. Even the actors of the show have criticized the plot. Surprisingly, the audience of the show is still high considering the fact that everyone in Riverdale is so good looking.

Riverdale also got a spin-off called Katy Keene, and this was a good show but it got axed after the first season.

So, these are our counts for five shows that should have ended earlier. Do you have any other shows to add? Do let us know.
